Welcome to our hunting page

This page has been set up to help those of us in the Association who choose to hunt with their Murray River Retriever. Some members have hunted over their Murrays for generations, you only have to look at our history page to verify that.

The Murray River Retriever formerly known as the Murray River Curly Coated Retriever has one of the longest association with the duck hunting fraternity in this country, beaten by very few other breeds, if any. It was the dog for duck hunting right up to the 1960s when the introduction of other more versatile breeds were introduced into this country. However, the Murray River Retriever is still very popular amongst some duck hunting purists.

The Murray River Retriever is still a very versatile dog that will not only retrieve ducks but will flush quail, hunt foxes, rabbits and pheasant but it’s forte is working the swamps retrieving ducks. Over time we will cover all aspects of hunting that is associated with hunting over our dogs but first we will start with turning your Murray into a swamp dog which is what they really are. We will also endeavour to organize a club hunt during the next duck season. The one that was being organized this past season had to be abandoned from what has been going on.
